The Importance of Academic Freedom What is academic freedom? Some might say, but really without even knowing it everyone with a social media profile if proof that academic freedom is alive and well. Academic freedom gives everyone the right to express their views in speech, writing, and through communication without fear of prosecution, unless the rights of others are violated. There are many elements of academic freedom such as; principles of academic freedom, electronic communication and academic freedom, the opposing side reasons for not wanting academic freedom. Some would suggest that the overriding principle would come into play seeing as it should be covered under freedom of speech since it is online conversation. Electronic communication is becoming a new vital extension to academic freedom because of online schools. It’s like forums and conversations online between students and teachers that are submit online in class. Research can now be done online through your phone or on social media because if you are doing a project and you choose to use online resources as long as your references are good, then there should not be any problems. Electronic communication is the newest and fastest growing way of communication. some people will disagree that they do not think that people should be allowed say, write, or publish whatever you want. Academic freedom is one of most important things that have been implemented into all schools but some would disagree. The professors and educational scholars that disagree are ones that do not want to attack the engagement of an intellectual argument, but to keep it suppressed.
